One of the first things that pops into my head when i think of a futuristic city or way of life is The Jetsons.. For me it was one of my favourite shows as a child and was how i always pictured the future to be..
Lots of buildings high up in the sky on poles with flying cars to get around..
I definitly would like to in-corperate an elements of this into my design.

Back to the Future
Back to the future is one of the classic futuristic movies.. after looking at the style of car i thought about the delorean as being a posibility for a method of travel
this is based more on an altered car as oppose to a distinct new method of transport..
Something else I remember about is the cafe..
To look back at it, it doesnt look particulally futuristic.. whether that was their original intention or lack of budget i'm not too sure.. the most futuristic part was the scene where Marty orders a Pepsi
The bottle has a really organic feel to it..
A mixute of bright colours, lights and smooth finishes seem to be correlating for the idea of a futuristic city

Minority Report
A more rescent film to look to the future is Minority report.. I remember this having a really interesting look at technologies and transportation advancements..
here is how roads might look into the future according to MR.. the roads use cars with Magnets on them so they can travel in any direction..
This is an alternative to the flying option that was thought up in the Jetsons and Back to the Future.. other interesting technologies was the screen Tom Cruise used.. it was mainly the interface and the gloves..
some of these have really nice ideas for a vision of the future

Le Corbusier
One of the resources provided was to look at "Le Corbusier and the City of the Future".. If i'm honest its not quite what I imagined to be making.. The website feels rather flat and the links are a tad un-inventive..
However, it is very informative and works well.. I definitly will be looking for a interactive and interesting looking interface

Virtual Architecture Project
This was slightly closer to what I had in mind.. (website)
The image to the right is a handrawn sketch of a map.. this gives you a better idea of where you are visiting as it makes it easier to select your location.. The interactive 360 rotating image is also amazing..
I think the rotating image is slightly out of our current depth but I like that this feel a tad more hands on

My thoughts on the Future
Noone can say for definiate what the future will look like, so its all down to your own individual perceptions on what the future might entail.
With the apparent melting of the polar ice-caps I would believe that parts of the Jetsons idea would be part of the future. With the increase in water level.. decrease of land mass.. and continous increase in population, i'd believe it would be perfectly reasonable to move buildings into the air..
Another point i've noticed is the need for us as humans to idiot proof EVERYTHING.. something I noticed only the otherday was a bad of salted nuts that had the warning "May contain nuts".. In my future, should we stay on course, I can picture buildings that represent exactly what they contain.. so a burger shop would resemble a burger.. and chip shop looking like a pack of chips.. an coffee shop like a coffee mug.. etc and so forth..
This has led me to remember a game i used to play as a child......

Here is a photoshopped render of a Burger building for McDonalds expanding on my Sketch
Im really happy with this finished image.. its what I had in mind for my overall city.. I want to do a few sketches into layouts for my final piece now I have a strong idea for what I want to persue.

Doesn't Fit
After taking my sketch into flash i noticed that after setting the sizes that I wanted for the shops i was going to struggle to fit them into the window..
An option i've thought about is working on a Panning effect so the window slides from left to right with the mouse so i can have a wider set

Panning Actionscript
I looked at a few websites and the website i used i now cant find :(.. however i have found websites with similar codes
As panning isn't on my course i had to search for my own tutorials to get my desired effect.. these websites were helpful

Moveable birds
While i was searching for how to do the panning test i found a nice simple interactive tool that could add to my final piece.. a simple drageable object.. in my example i thought about some flying birds..

Video Billboard
Something we learned in lesson today was video.. i thought this could be nice to integrate into into my final piece.. to do this waht i done was create the background as a .png with a cut out window.. this is so the video can sit in behind the background so it looks like its sitting in the screen.. also i added a Glow effect to darken the edges..

First Button
I have missed out where i added some info to the Billboard.. i added a little flash on the "K" so it flickers on and off to try and give an authentic neon feel to it.. and i dropped the moveable birds in..
Here i have created my first button out of the McDonalds store.. i haven's created the inside i just put a .jpg on the destination at the moment until i create the inside

Second Button
I created my second shop based on the coffee shop Starbucks.. Both my buttons/buildings work.. My next plan is to decide what will replace the .jpg's that are markers

Inside the buttons
An idea I had to have inside the buttons was to show an interactive menu for the shops.. I used a button method for the RollOvers..
